I've been looking to buy a new horse, something a bit chunky, a cob or irish draughty type or something along those lines, but then I've read about mules, and thought that might be an option.
Has anyone got one? Do you know anywhere that sells/breeds them in the UK? it would have to be a biggish one at I am 5'8" and look at bit stupid on anything smaller than 15.1hh.

Ears back for streamlining!!!! :D
She loves to jump - including out of anywhere you put her - cleared a 4ft upright in the barn last week, out of deep litter straw, while wearing her rug.....

I looked into getting a mule, too! Only reason i stopped really was because I couldn't find any!! They're just such characters, my mum laughed when i said i wanted a mule, i was like 'what's wrong with mules?!' If one came up when i was looking to buy I'd certainly give it some thought!

I also read Paul'sblogspot and sobbed! Now I want a draft mule!
If I don't sell my Spanish mare I shall send her to you for mule production...

There's a spare mule in a field near mine ... Please come steal it in the middle of the night! It's noisy and grumpy :p! Kinda cute though ... Not sure if it's worked at all. Looks well looked after.

Mules are wonderful - but different.
I had a little one years and years ago, when my daughters were small; much to the horror of my husband I bought him from a rag and bone man in Ulster when we were there on holiday. Of course that meant we had to buy a trailer to bring him back ...
He drove (shows, scurry and on the roads), he rode, he jumped, he hunted, did PC Style and Performance, minimus cross-country, affiliated Pleasure Rides, gymkhana games - I think he and the kids had a go at everything bar high-goal polo, and he was knowing enough that he could do everything bar fasten his own buckles on this harness and tack.
He was elderly when we got him but you would never have known it other than from his teeth. The most wonderful character, and very different to any horse or any donkey. Very, very knowing.

If there are any still in existence, they will be B&W, faded and in a photo album in the Antipodes, I imagine!
