I'm sure it's been asked before but I can't find anything on searching.

With Forrest's diagnosed problems (kissing spines, sacroiliac and hock problems) I obviously want the best treatment for him (especially while the insurance company is paying!) but want to understand the differences in the above and if they are more suited to any particular type of problem. I always used to think osteo/chiro = bones and physio/massage = muscular but I'm not sure how true that is!!

Can anyone explain?

I vaguely asked this a while ago and Jessey answered me...and I quote:

'There are subtle differences in what 'back people' do: Chiro's re-align bones which normally involves minimal muscle work, physio use exercise (forced eg them moving the horses leg or voluntary ridden or carrot stretches) to encourage correctness and strength, then you get osteo and sports massage, SM's just do massage, Osteo do muscle manipulation and some bone manipulation, then you get the less main stream ones Bowen, rolfing etc

I am lucky int hat I have a McTimoney chiro (just means she was trained in the McTimoney method fo chiropratics) who is also a sports massage therapist '

Hope that helps

This is a fantastic website for explaining all the different types of therapy (well nearly!) in one place :D

It helped me a lot when I was searching for therapies for Merrick.

Just a note to say that massage will definitely suit your boy, I can't speak for how well the others would/would not suit though,
