Hi

Can anyone let me know how much they pay for a horse on a half loan?

I have been offered a half loan sharing with the owner who has her mare at grass livery at the moment and she is asking for £50 per month, but I'm not sure at the moment what my input would be workwise.

The mare is an 8 year old good all rounder and I am an incompetant novice:rolleyes: , so I think this may be a good start for me.

Can anyone let me now how much they pay and what they get in return for their money and do they have to pay extras - vets, shoeing etc

The school she is at has good facilities, two schools indoors and outdoors, floodlights, crosss country course and plenty of hacking

Yann, I know this is completely different to what I was thinking about last week but you know you can't always turn these offers down!

Thanks

Lizzy

Hehe it is isn't it!:D

No you can't, it's surprising how these things come along, beware, you're possibly taking the first step on the road to perdition!

£50 per month sounds pretty reasonable for a horse at grass, it more or less represents half of the basic running costs ie. Livery, shoes and feed if the prices down your way are similar to those up here.

The rub is whether you take on additional one off costs as they come along, my own feeling is that the owner should carry that risk unless it's a long term arrangement. It also depends whether it is a genuine part loan or a share on offer.

If you pay 50% then it's reasonable to expect 50% of the riding time and 50% of the work. How you get on with the owner is as much if not more important than how you get on with the horse

Good luck, let us know how you get on!:)

I have asked the girl who is part loaning Rhi for £80 a month. This covers her stabling and I am buying shavings, feed, paying the insurance, shoes, vets fees etc.

I guess what her input is also. However I had a pony on part oan and as I only roade on a Sunday I only paid for feed £5 a month..

You can only give it a go and if it does not work out then move on.
