I don't know of any hair regrowth stuff (it would go for a fortune in the human world :o ) but yes i was warned about hoods for my horse too as he's a thin mane. It hasn't rubbed (yet) but I'm monitoring it. It does lie flatter though, it's a half hood.

Would a vest-type thing under the hood help? :o Sorry, i'm not a whole lot of help :)

are you sure it's rubbing? sometimes if they get too warm under a hood the mane just comes out in handfuls. this happened to petal one year - mid february and a suddenly unexpectedly sunny day, and boom, 8 inches of mane just fell out. if it's rubbing it'll happen gradually and the hair will be ruffled up and manky - when they over heat it just falls out with no rubbing or broken hair left at all.

i would avoid hoods or neck covers if you possibly can.

My mare rubbed away the top of her tail when she had pin worms, it looked awful! I researched and found a product but it comes from america or the netherlands its called "Shapley's Original MTG" its for hair regrowth in horses. It worked wonders you put it on the bald or thin area and the hair will grow back about really quickly about 3" a month! you can also use it on hair loss where their had been a injury etc ans hair will grow back over the scar. It really is magic stuff! http://www.shapleys.com/ this is the web address :):)

Yes this happens to my mare her mane gets very dry and weak and I agree its casued by overheating of the mane. She has to wear a hood as normal rugs rub her withers.
If you feed a seaweed supplement it will help to grow it back its great stuff! some oil in her food (I use vegetable oil), will help too
