I just found out my cousin Rebecca Ross is in the qualifying round for the 2008 olympics!!! She has to make it though one last round in Perth(my hometown) and then she will be representing Australia!!! she'll be the youngest Equestrian Olympian EVER to make it even to where she is!! Hope everyone cheers her on if u can go or even at the TV :) especially Aussie!

Sorry but I doubt that very much! There is a minimum age for Olympic competition plus there are no records of her competing Showjumping over the past year. Only Pony Club competition and Barastoc HOTY 2007 competition plus other showing results.

The minimum age for competing at equestrian events is 16. Its a bit odd that the press seem to have completely overlooked the story of such a young girl potentially qualifying for the Olympics, I know that here in the UK, they'd have been all over the story, but perhaps its different in Australia.
What discipline is she competing in? Is she a show-jumper, eventer or dressage rider?

I'm not having a go at you. I just think you have been miss informed.
Gruntfuttock - If someone as young as 16 or about that age made it into the Olympics. Yeah, it would be on the news and in the papers and if for some reason it wasn't ????? It would definately be on the Equestrian Federation of Australia (EFA) website.
I have done a quick search on this website and Google and there are no records of a Rebecca Ross competing at any high level showjumping. Most events I have found that include her are only Pony Club or EFA showing classes.

If it is true, that is fantastic.
I would have thought there'd be a ton more media reports about it though.
It's not my place to think your lying, so congradulations to her :)

sorry - it doesn't look like she has made it.

I hope she has better luck next time. (oh, and the media would only take up the storey if she had qualified - she has done really well to get to this stage)

Would have thught it was the same ages as over hear GB, to jump in seniors at that level you need to be over 16.
If she was that good and that much of a top rider why has no one hird of her, even in outher countries {sp} she should be at all the big international shows all over the world. Hickstead, Spanish tour, French tour etc...
ESP to repsent your counrty at the OLYMPICS!!!

:( no pics, i only met my dad and his family a few years ago (apparently horses are in my blood as we all rode well before we met) and they live over east in Melbourne (for those not in aus thats like twenty englands away). I'll have to ask him about what she's doing and if she's in it, i looked on the efa site and couldn't find her either (sorry for those who i had a go at, i was in a mood :o ) i dont know when i'll see any of them next but when i do i'll get pics and info up. :)
