Are they a requirement in the higher dressage tests, as in you MUST ride your test in one?

they are not compulsory in the uk at the higher levels

a double bridle can be worn in elementary to advanced, but does not have to be. they can also be chosen in PSG to grand prix nationally, unless the organisers state a double must be used, but are compulsary PSG to grand prix internationally.

The double bridle is optional in the 3rd & 4th and are required in the PSG, I1 I2 and grand prix levels

Actually you can do PSG in a snaffle, the rules were changed last year. It made a huge difference to me & Jim - not ;) :D
