I havent ridden for a while recently as I have a condition that prevents me from doing so when Im having a flare up.

I rode for the 1st time last night & after doing a couple of laps in the menege at rising trot, I felt I could do no-more. I was completely out of breath & just felt like a sack of potatoes on Blackies back!

Can anyone suggest any excersises that I could do at home to get me a little bit fitter, Im aiming for 2 shows in March but at this rate I dont think I will be going :(

Could be worth buying one of those mini trampolines. Good for fitness and fun!!

Squats to strengthen your legs and plenty of walking/light jogging would help and perhaps using a gym ball. Silly question but were you remembering to breathe?! I forget sometimes when I am concentrating on rising trot and it is the quickest way to get knackered!

Yup I do that too-by the time you pull up you just want to slide off the edge with exhaustion!!

I have a gym ball at home so will dig it out(used it a few times & got "bored" of it!!!)

Thanks for tips!

all of the above but also break up your schooling session so you dont do too much at once. Getting yourself out of breath and exhausted quickly will not help you it will just wear you out!
e.g. try 2 laps of rising trot then a walk on a long rein for a lap. repeat several times. 2 20 mtr trot circles then walk for a lap. You can do this with lots of excercise and the break in between will stiop you getting wrecked.

I do this with a mare I am riding that is unfit we do a piece of work then we walk on a loose rein and continue like that so we are doing schooling but I keep it at a pace that will not wear her out quickly.

Didn't Lucinda Green skip to keep fit when she didn't have time to ride?????
