I was just having a look through the riding syllabus of Stage 1 on the BHS website and wondered whether you had to pass each individual element. For example if you were pretty much perfect on everything else, but had risen on the wrong diagonal, would this straight away constitute a fail? Thanks :)

I think you have to pass all the compulsory elements, even if you fail one you fail the whole thing(but remember the care & riding are different sections so you could pass the riding & fail the care)

yup joey is right on the sheets you get of teh syllabus it will say what its compulsary 'C' and what are supporting 'S' elements. If you fail one 'C' you fail it all but you can fail a couple of 'S' elements

I've just done my Stage One in November last year.

In each section for example grooming or behaviour you have a say three Compulsaory elements and two supporting elements. When you get you result sheet back it says on the end of the row how many Compulsory you must get and how many supporting. so you must get for example one suppoeting and two compulsory, if you get a X in a compulsory box it isn't nessaraily a fail.
I too thought this until i read my result page. I passed with a clean sheet but my friend got a X on one compulsory element and still passed.
