My dutch horse has a very fat tongue. I have sorted out a couple of bits for hacking and dressage since buying him. Now I have to find something for this year's show ring. Anyone had experience of this? He is to old to been shown in a snaffle, so double reins are essential. He has a 5inch mouth.

I don't know *anything* about showing. Why is he too old to be ridden in a snaffle?
IMO if he has a fat tongue, wouldn't a double be too much for his mouth?

He'll probably find a pelham more comfortable.

A pelham would be more comfortable and even better if its a mullen mouth or single jointed. If you like the look of a double bridle then a Rugby Pelham might be worth a look, very popular for showing as they give the appearance of a two bits from the outside.

If he has a fat tounge, perhaps try a pelham with a large port to free up some more space for his big licker!! :)

What mouthpiece is he ridden in at the moment?
Get the same mouthpiece but in a rugby pelham if he comfy in what he wears every day. I wouldn't worry about a double bridle.
I'd be looking for either a ported mullen mouth or double jointed (french link/ dr bristol etc) bit to give room for a thick tongue though :)
