View Full Version : Dressage before breakfast...

...I decided at the last minute to enter Mrs P in a dressage comp that took place yesterday. Imagine my delight when I got my time - 8.42am  I just don't do mornings but I'd been practising the test all last week so with *Crazy-Chaz* roped in to be my faithful groom, I got up at 6am yesterday & got on with it. I got up & collected Chaz, got Mrs P ready, drove to dressage, did dressage, came back, fed Mrs P & turned her out, mucked out box, mucked out, hayed & watered Mrs P, came home & uploaded pix from the camera, all before 11am
Mrs P was a good girl, she was a bit on her toes in the warm up but then she settled & was working nicely in the Stubley Hollow indoor school. Things went downhill for the test though - it was v cold & blowing a gale so she kept pointing her bum into the wind, crossing her jaw and flapping her ears around. She also thought the view from the Stubley outdoor menage was fabulous and seemed to find this quite distracting. She also wanted to neigh at her new mates in the turnout fields.
Anyhoos, she got 7s for a bit of right rein canter & the free walk (that was heading back towards her haynet which helped a lot :-| ). Judges comment was 'some nice moments, and a pleasing spring in canter, but lacking consistency...Lacking impulsion at times (when Mrs P was gazing at the view probably) and unsteady into contact' (yep, flappy ears & crossed jaw!). I also forgot the test & got an error of course :o Without that she would have got over 60%, as it was we got 59. something. So plenty to work on but I'm glad I dragged myself out of bed for it, it's only her 2nd test, & we need to get some miles on the clock. Don't know if we got placed because the results haven't been posted yet but somehow I doubt it...
Here is a short clip of our pre-test poddling in the wind. Chaz did video the test but it's too big to go on Photobucket :(

Sounds horribly familiar! :p Well done though, at least you've got another one under your belt :D

I was wondering how you'd got on, sounds good! I was most impressed that you beat me to the yard on Sunday :D
59. something is pretty decent for only a second go and it was blowing a gale which doesn't help. I bet she looked lovely.

Thanks! I liked the judge comment for the very last movement - 'quarters right very crooked halt'. That was for a huge bum swivel that indicated that the wind was blowing from somewhere near the F marker, according to Mrs P's amazing weather-sensitive bottom  We were sort of broadside to the judge when I saluted :D

Pah! Vid won't work for some reason. Sounds like another good trip out though and another good learning experience for her :) She's right, there is a nice view from up there:D
Chaz is a star, I mercilessly roped her in to hacking Rio out for me yesterday afternoon without realising what a long day she'd already had:D

Yes, they went well, they got 15% more than the last time they did the same test with the same judge, so that sounded like a good improvement to me. So we hacked home after that and then went to Barlow Trout farm for chip butties for breakfast!

Sounds fab :D I was disappointed that the Stubley cafe wasn't open & had to starve :( Even Mrs P's haylage was smelling good :o

Not sure at the moment, will wait to see if Soft Spot will be getting another outing. I would not be having a go unless I had my own horse by then!
