View Full Version : What are the 'new fangled' bits like, and would they suit my boy?

There seem to be so many different types now - Myler, bitless, Pee Wee bit. I don't know if any would be better than what we're using, so thought I'd ask on here and see!

I currently use a gag for hacking (to prevent exuberant rows of bucks - TB:rolleyes: - rather than for brakes - we have good brakes in pretty much any bit!). For schooling, one of those snaffles with the arm on top (baucher?) so the snaffle hangs in the mouth a bit. Horse's preference is very much lip pressure over bar. Hates mullen or similar straight barred arrangements which suggests he isn't too keen on tongue pressure either. Likes french links, hates single jointed bits with a passion! Horse goes well in a bitless bridle too, but with an English hackamore I was powerless if he bucked, and with a Dr Cook we didn't have quite enough control out hacking were we to see a nice open field.

So, would any of the newer types of bit be better?

Iv never used any of these bits i quite like the look of the myler snaffles with out the ports, but there are some that like down right scary such as the mikmar i think it is, I think if your bit is working for you stick with it as in my opinion alot of these new bits are people wanting to make money and having to think of amazing new ways that will make you think how you did without but if your doing fine now why change?
