I am moving up your way sometime soon. I live in Kent at the mo. Whats it like for horses up there. My guess is its not so over populated as Kent.

Are there many horsy jobs there i.e. riding schools or stud work. I know there are alot of racing yards but I am not really a racing/thoroughbred fanatic although I love all horses I prefer the more cold blooded type apart from Arabs.

Can't answer your questions I'm afraid, new to horseyness. But I'm in Norfolk, Great Yarmouth, and just wanted to say hi and welcome.

Thats the area I am moving to. Wheres the best places to live to avoid the aircraft? My husband is working near RAF Mildenhall.

Me too, Norfolk/Suffolk border, just out side Thetford.:D

Are you bringing a horse up here with and looking for livery or are you just looking for somewhere to ride?

The whole area is surrounded by forestry commission forest so hacking is fab.

Lots of endurance rides locally aswell if you are into that.

Had a bit of a scary ride at Santon Downham once, got 'Buzzed' by a lone low-flying F15 and poor old DP thought it was his duty to do 0 to 60 in about 4 seconds:eek: (it felt like that anyway) luckily we were on a very long forest track.

Feel freeto Pm me if you need any info about area.

You get the aircraft noise pretty much all over this area tina1958! They tend to fly low over open spaces & the forest - just where best hacking is!! The helecopters & tornados make the biggest din.
It's amazing how quickly the horses just get used to it though. As ours hear it whilst in fields - it's just not an issue when we're out & about.
They're so used to it, that they didn't even seem to notice where the air ambulance helicopter landed right by them at a show last year!! Lots of ponies were spinning around, but ours were grazing!

Thank you everyone. I have two horses and will be looking for DIY livery(slimjim any ideas welcome). I guessed right about the aircraft. My girls are both native/draught types so I think they will adapt to the flying things better than me. I am looking forward to the hacking my husband keeps reassuring me its a lovely part of the country but you know how you worry about your horses. Its got to be a place for them first then a house for us second:D

My horses live at home, and we are right next to Norwich airport! Amazingly, they dont seem to care .. even with the really loud ones (cant remember the name of them) going over, they dont bat an eyelid.

You're literally 5 minutes away from me then (on a good day)! Did you find livery in time? I know of a fair few places just don't know about spaces available.
