try the BHS site (http://www.bhs.org.uk/TREC/TREC.htm)
also there has been some stuff in one of the UK magazines - Kelly Marks having a go at TREC.
(It used to be Le Trec but is now just TREC !).

Hi
As an explanation, Trec comes from France and is something that most people can do with their horses... it involves orienteering, getting through an obstacle course which has gates, a few jumps and a slowest canter section! A few women from my stables go and do it as it's fun and a not as stressful as competitions/shows!
This site gives a good explanation: http://www.horsehackers.com/feature_letrec.htm
Apparantly a good fun day out!

Hmm....from what it sounds like TREC sounds a lot like a Western Trail class (walking horses over small bridges, polls, around abjects, opening gates while mounted and so forth.) Is it a lot like it? or am I just being odd :)

TREC has some similar elements to Western Trail, but e.g. the orienteering part is out in the big wide world, rather than in a ring :)

As far as I understand it TREC is split into 3 sections. The first is like an orienteering course on horseback where you have to navigate around a course with a map from point to point. The second bit is doing "obstacles" so this is where your crossing a bridge, opening a gate, doing some small jumps etc comes in. The 3rd bit sounds really amd where you have walk up a track as fast as you can, then turn round and come back down in canter as slow as you can. But I've never been to a TREC event yet (I need to borrow a horse first!!!!) - as far as I can tell they are quite relaxed in terms of you can wear what you want, only complete the sections you want etc. Sound like fun to me!
