Hi there, can anyone tell me if i'm doing this right.
I'm selling my saddle and have been told to measure between the D rings for the width. Do I measure actually TO the D rings or the gap between one side of the saddle and the other BETWEEN the D rings? I've come up with 8 inches when measuring across to the rings
Please help me!!!

they normaly measure the width d ring to d ring not the gullet but you could measure where the padding starts comming down from the pommel

Its actually a load of rubbish measuring between the d-rings to gauge the width of a tree, different saddle makes set their d-rings in different positions, higher, lower, further back....... You can measure one medium tree at 8", move on to a wide saddle and find that that is 8" too.

Sorry not much help....

Easiest way is to take a photo of you holding a ruler against the saddle so that the potential buyer can make their own mind up.

Your saddle might actually have the width stamped on it somewhere if it's an off-the-peg one?

D-ring to D-ring gives an indication, but not a really reliable one.

What are you selling it with? (local person or ebay/advert?)
If you and the buyer are concerned you could get her to send you a template... though that will only check it fits in the most basic way (as will measuring the D-rings).

thanks everyone. I'm selling it on ebay. the fit was stamped on saddle but has worn off so not much help! All I can see is a 3 and fit. I think i'll add a pic to my advert of me holding a tape measure across

What make / model is it? 3 is usually a medium but it depends on the make & model.
