View Full Version : Feeling a bit ripped off!

I brought a new saddle at the end of summer and am really happy with it. It was also a bargain at 495, custom made in english leather.

The problem I have is, when I brought it the saddler told me that included in the price was a free check and flocking top up or re adjust. I asked when it had to be done and she said when ever I felt I needed it, some people had it in 2 months some in over a year.
I said "oh thats brilliant because kallum is on a diet so will have it done when he is down to target"
"yes" she said "very good idea it will save you money having me out at a later date."

I phoned yesterday to arrange said check and top up. All went well and she is coming monday, until, she said rite so thats a free check and top up so will just be £25 call out charge with no extra to pay!

Does any one else think this is a little unfair?

First of all she said it was free and at no time did she montion said call out charge. My friend was also there and heard what she said.

Secondly she only lives and works 5 mins down the rd so even if she came in a tank it wouldn't cost that much!!!

I will have it done because his comfort is more important to me than the money but feel that I have been some what duped. What do you all think? Would like to hear even if you think i,m wrong please!

Foot note: The saddle is truely amazing though and she was very helpful!

Doesn't really seem fair unless it was made clear at the time. Free should be free. Glad you like the saddle though & will probably be worth it anyway.
Love the idea of hacking to her to save her callout fee - or send a taxi for her - would be cheaper!!! Guess she has to charge for for time but not materials.

:D:D:D
Oh you are brilliant.

I have just e mailed and asked if I can trailer my boy to her to save the call out fee.:p Its along a very busy road so wouldn,t chance hacking all the way along it.

It will cost me £3 max to get him there and back.

Dont get me wrong am not a skinflint but as was just said free should be free!

God u lot are absolute genius's. Ta guys

It was a no go  simply not possible!

Fortunately for me my friend is having her saddle checked next week by a little old man who just does adjustments now as he is retired. My freind swears by him. He has agreed to do mine at the same time even though he isnt taking any one else on. What a lovely man eh? He is charging me £5 for my top up on flocking and £7.50 for his petrol and time. Although if I need any more adjustments he said it will cost more, which is fine and understandable! So am very pleased!!!

Shame you couldnt beat her at her own game, but methinks you are winning anyway!

I also think free should be free, without enormous call outs attached! My saddler comes out and does a saddle fit for £30 - that's his travel, time and equipment, etc. Obviously, if it needs more work, then it will cost a little more, but £25 for a call out is a bit over the top, especially if she is so close!

Well I lost the battle but think I won the war. She wont be getting my custom again. Well, not now have found someone else just as good to check my saddle. Someone who will do it cheaper than her so called freebie :D

Would still reccomend the saddles though because they are fab!

That was my point. If she had said £10 or even £15 it wouldn't have been so bad but £25. I nearly hypoventilated when she told me!! The silly thing is if she had told me in the first place it would cost that for my first top up instead of saying it was free I wouldn't have minded in the slightest.
