I am hoping to work next summer at a riding holiday centre in Wales, but do not have any real recent experience in handling horses. I used to loan a horse when I was younger and look after several when their owners were on holiday.

The only contact I have with horses at the momenmt is at my once - a -week riding lesson, and I don't get the chance to groom or tack up or anything else really.

Will the things I used to be able to do easily and to a good standard come back to me quickly or will I need to be re-taught everything??

Hi Clarice

Everybody has their own little way of doing things. So in general you will find people will want to show your 'their' way anyway.

If you are normally a quick learner, then it should not be a problem. Also you will have the confidence boost that you know you have done it before, so it is not impossible.

But you may also find it quite frustrating. Still either way you should have fun and learn a lot !

Can you find ways to practise in the meantime ? e.g. ask if you can help taking up at your stables ?
