Hi ya peeps
I bought a saddle a while ago from ebay which i later found to be indian leather when it arrived (whats worse is i sent the woman £100 for two saddles and she only sent me one and said she would send me the £50 but never did argh!!!)
Anyway are these saddles getting bad press because that are bad quality or is it because they are dangerous?
It totally doesnt fit my horse but may fit a cob type and i was considering selling it on but if they are dangerous then i will just give it to a pub for decoration or something rather then cause pain to a horse
From my understanding a indian leather saddle I think they are from a dead cow that died of old age because the indians wont kill a sacred animal?
and do they nail the wood together instead of putting it together how the english saddlers do??
Should I sell it or not people what do you think? I would only want £30 for it if I did but if it would cause damage then again I would rather go without the £30
Thanks

I did an appraisal on a dreadful saddle bought from ebay, by the time I had listed all the faults I condemned it as not fit for purpose and the lady got her money back through paypal.
It was an abomination, wouldn't even fit a camel. You could get a saddler to go over it and put in a complaint to e-bay.
Don't sell it though, either give it back and get your money or saw it in half and put it in the skip.

To be honest, from the cheap Indian saddles that I've seen, I would say poor quality AND dangerous.
One that I've seen the innards of looked like the tree was made out of a pallet! I've seen nails which would stick into the horse. Edges which weren't pared down which would dig into the horse and heard of saddles (not seen them personally but no reason to disbelieve the person who told me) that were stuffed with USED swabs etc from hospitals! Some of the 'flocking' is appalling, all kinds is stuffed in there. Add to that asymmetry, poor quality stitching and completely twisted and unbalanced saddles ....
I can give you the number of someone who may take it off your hands to take to pieces for teaching purposes if you'd be interested.

If it goes into a pub, it can come out again, for whatever reasons, make sure it goes nowhere near a horse, this is why I saw them in half now.......I put one in the skip whole and it came back to me for repair! The man said he'd found it in his attic! yeah, right! He got it out of the skip the rotten so and so.

Fair play will get rid of it in a way where it wont be used again
If it can be used as a something education so people realise how bad they are then that would be for the best
good point about the pub too, im too trusting

I know someone who didn't believe they are not very good.. Not even when his horse started bucking him off as the saddle was hurting her.. Not when it was pointed out by a saddler the saddle wasn't any good and was causing the bucking.. What finally managed to make him ditch the saddle was him ending up riding in rain and the saddle leaked colour making his beige jods kind of orangy around his bum and inner leg.. :o
Well, at least he got rid of the saddle.. :p

The person that I'm thinking about gives talks on saddle fitting and loves taking a knife to saddles to show the good, the bad and the very ugly :)
I have to run away to work now but I'll pm you her contact details later :)
