One word at the moment - Ouch! :D Its actually my knees that ache.
I had an hours lesson today with just little old me and my favourite horse Dotty (and RI :D) He is a fab horse as he can have beginners on him but is also suitable for the more experienced as he knows what to do!
I asked to work on my canter mainly and my general position. I said i tend to tense in canter and that my legs tend to wobble!
So we warmed up for a bit. It was a bit cold at first as we were outside! The school wasnt great. There was one corner that was quite marshy and we sunk everytime we rode there.
Once i had a walk and a trot we did some canter. She said i looked fine and didnt look too tense :D I didnt actually feel tense. I know Dotty and he is a gem to ride. So we did a few trot to canter transitions and circles and she talked about dropping my hip when we corner as i tended to slightly lean.
Then she decided to take my stirrups up to xc hunter length! Not quite jockey style but they felt short! She said this was to get my legs flexing a bit. So i did some trot and canter in them. I then went into jumping position with them and did more canter. It did help my seat lighten! But it really buggered my knees!! As in hurt so much i asked to put stirrups back to normal. Has anyone had this done in a lesson? It really helped!
So we did that and then did some walk to canter transitions which were great! Never done them before. He was much better in one rein than the other all the way thruogh out the lesson and i got quite frustrated at one point as he wouldnt canter about 3 times in a row! But we got there! We tripped a few times in the marshy corner but i didnt feel unseated at all! So somethng was obviously working lol!
My canter felt improved and i need to work on my position during circles. I asked her about my position during canter and she said it was fine.
So it was a good lesson. It went by really fast!! I think its totally worth doing every month. The RI was nice and i did learn things but she didnt seem to say much about my position.....im not sure if thats a good thing in that there wasnt much to comment on or if it was just her not bothering
Just wanted to share
