You can find a range of Equestrian 'how to' guides on the Countrywide website (http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk), which you may find useful? Topics range from 'How to feed your Horse or Pony' (http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/pdf/How_to_guide1.pdf)to 'Equine Supplements and Treats - How do I know what to give my horse? (http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/pdf/How_to_guide2.pdf)'

To view all of the guides available, simply click here! (http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/Content.ice?page=GuidesEquestrianHowToGuides&pgForward=businesscontentbasic)

Don't forget... 15% off ALL* Equestrian Supplies (*excluding feed & bedding) ends on March 1st 2008! Visit the Equestrian Department (http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/ProductCategoryAttributeLink.ice?page=equestrian&layout=departmenthome.layout&paId=Equestrian&value=) to view the full range!

There is some calculation you can use, if i can remember it:o

work out 2% of horses bodyweight

Divide 70% of that % for the amount of forage needed

Divide 30% of that % for hard feed needed.

This is a bit sciencey though!!! temperament and condition play a part too!!!

Haylege is high in water, so i'm sure that you have to feed a little more than hay to ensure the fibre intake is maintained:)

Generally you should be feeding however much is recommended on the bag/tub of every products you use.
Generally however, a horse in light-medium work should be receiving 2% of his bodyweight in food. Preferably 70-80% of this should be made up of forage and 20-30% concentrates, though these are mere guidelines as, for one, many horses thrive on a 100% forage-based diet and individual differences (i.e. whether the horse is a good/poor doer, living out 24/7, his age etc) need to be taken into consideration also.
