I was just wondering, can you compete in dressage using a waterford snaffle?

no at 99% of competions it is illegal

Nope, 'fraid not. My friend was told off for using one at our tiny local RC dressage comp, in a no canter test!

Aaahhh thats a bummer! What bits are legal then for prelim? Is it just your average snaffles?

I'm not 100% sure (so please don't shoot me down if i'm wrong :o) but I think you can use a hanging cheek snaffle.

french link normal and lozgane (sp) snaffles stainless steal and sprenger and neue schele styles and some mylers (stated on webby whether dressage legal or not)
yup filit bauchers are allowed :)

Yep, snaffles allowed are eggbutt, french link, hanging cheek (filet baucher), mullen mouth/straight bar, double jointed with roller in the middle, and now the botton level mylers are allowed too.
