Right, I need a plan.
If you read my other thread you'll know my boy has been barefoot 3 years in August, and after a recent trim has come quite sore as quite a lot of wall was taken off and he still has very flat soles.
The yard we are at is a working farm so I could sweep 'til the cows come home and the tractors would still drag more stones out of the fields across the concrete (we have to walk over to get to the field and back!).

I am planning this weekend to measure his feet and get him some Hoof Eeze boots to do plenty of pad walking when I am back (I am at uni during the week). We had some easyboot epics however we broke them ages ago in a gallop! We've glued them back.... erm, somehow lol, but I think they'd rub his feet so I'd rather not use them.

Anyway! He's currently on Chaff, Quikbeet, Pasture Nuts, etc... and Biotin for his feet. Can someone tell me more about Magnesium?!

Also - is it worth trying Keratex to help harden his soles? We need harder soles as well as more concavity. These are in his fronts by the way - his hinds are pretty good now.

Any suggestions welcome :)

try keratex hoof hardener on your horse's soles and up his hoof wall (two thirds of the way up his hoof). apply daily for one week and twice a week after that and you should see an improvement almost immediately. his hooves will 'ching' more on the concreteif he's barefoot!

He is obviously sensitive in his soles, so next time the trimmer comes out tell him not to take too much off! Alternatively, learnt to rasp yourself....
Keratex will help.
Magnesium - are you asking as a 'calmer'? Naf Magic is one of the highest mag ratio calmer mixes on the market. I feed magox heavy as its much cheaper, but calmers seem to be trial and error - top spec calmer didnt work for my horse but works on my friends' cob.
