I am scared of foot rot or lamintis in Blue because he is turned out 24/7, and I have no way of giving him a totaly dry area. Basically it has been over 2 months that is has been raining, we get a clear day now and again, but the paddocks are jsut SOAKING, every step he takes, he is stepping in water :(. And I am scared he might get foot rot. I've got some photos'. Also in the last 2 weeks his hooves have growen over an inch :(. Just above his heels are soft and have got these funny holes in them, and his the front of the hooves are the same (up in the soft stuff that has just grown. What would you do to slow down the possibilities of foot rot? Because I wouldn't be surprised if this rain will keep up in the next few weeks :(.

His feet look really good. To get rot or fungus you really need a crack for it to live in and fester. The nice thing about wet like that is the hooves never get packed to provide that.

We are having the same issue with non-stop rain, my guy just blew out a really nasty abscess from getting bruised and being wet for so long.

Yup, that is what I meant. I've seen that swiss-hole look too, the vet said it was just from a lot of moisture.

They look good, can't see any signs of foot rot/thrush going on. The little hole seems to not be unusual when they're in the wet all the time, periople (kind of cuticle-like bit) gets waterlogged and then more easily damaged. Right Step hoof dressing can help a bit with feet that are wet all the time, but if there are any thrushy bits that aren't obvious in the pic don't put it over those.

If he's prone to laminitis then you could electric fence a small section off or use a grazing muzzle so he doesn't get to eat to much grass even though he's out all the time.

Thanks for all the advice. BUT amazingly it decided to stop raining. But aside from that last night I had a dream that Blue had the huge (very unrealistic) holes in his soles :D. Gave me quite a laugh, this morning when I thought about it.

his feet look fine - i am battling with this with my donkey aimee, her front foot has two huge holes in it and she has been box rested etc as her feet were sore, she is on farriers formula, washing every second day with NAf spray, spraying with sole disinfectant, etc. the ground here is very wet and it has been a wild winter so it just doesn't dry off. I have had to lay rubber mats as the gravel on the yard is hurting her feet, so we have a rubber walkway to take her from the stable to the field where she sinks up to her knees till she gets to the dry bits further up

I would love her feet to look like yours!
