i know loads of people post threads about saddles for cobs! so sorry about this one! But

I would really like a leather saddle for ferg but he is very wide and i dont think i would be able to get one to fit him on my budget!! so what saddles do you use on your cobs? and what would you recommend for ferg? and what prices have you paid? sorry for being nosy!!:D

Also i dont really have very much money to spend on a saddle probs £275 max! as i have to sell my saddle first before i can buy a new one!

Help!!

Rosie has a derby house working hunter (sambre). It took me about 6 months to find one as xw did not go near her! There are very wide but very expensive too. The best I did was £650 second hand! eek but had no choice! Prior to that she had a synthetic one

I've got the wintec wide saddle for my table top boy. Fits him a treat (in the XXXXW gullet - aaaargh, although they do measure up slightly narrower than some saddles, its maybe only the equivalent of an XXXW ha ha). You can get one new for £375 or maybe £200-£250) off ebay.

I love it (its got the cair panels). My only complaint is its a bit straight cut for me (long legs) and the seat sizes are smallish (buy a size up) xxx

I have a Silhouette (leather) saddle for my wiiiiiiide cob. Here ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/17-Wide-Extra-Wide-Silhouette-Show-Saddle_W0QQitemZ250216225828QQihZ015QQcategoryZ109126QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) is an example on ebay.

And a picture to show how wide she is  (excuse the uneven seat - not helped by the road camber!!)

I have a T4 cob saddle for my arab and its the best fit I've found so far and Ive tried loads. If the saddle tends to roll sideways use a Stuben string girth as well. I does really help.

Do you have any good local saddle fitters? They often have a stock of second hand saddles & may even take yours in part-exchange. Plus you'll know that the new saddle really fits.

I reckon the best bet is to get a fitter in to recommend something they feel can be made to fit and then hunt for it second hand and have it altered.

There's no point in taking any chances with saddle fit. It's the one thing that HAS to be right for the wellbeing of your horse. :)

If you get a fitter in ASAP you'll find that saddle prices are lower in the colder months so will get more for your money ;)
