When I first bought Joy I started her on seaweed at the recommendation of my friend who's yard I moved to. Joy's coat got shiny and the farrier comments on how good the new growth coming through was. She was prone to losing shoes before that and now doesn't even when hacking through the stickiest of mud.

Then I started her on Pink Powder to help her make the best use of the food she eats and because it is recommended for lamanitics. Joy doesn't have or show any signs of it but I would like to keep it that way.

And last month I started her on Magnesium Oxide because there was a posibility that she could be deficient in it given the grass in this area and her edgeyness. It is another product also recommended for those prone to laminitus as well as being a calmer for those with a deficiency. The behaviour improved but when I ran out I left her off it to make sure and yes she did revert so I have popped her back on again and she has calmed dowm again.

It is a balancer with a probiotic in it and can be used at double dose as a pick me up for sick animals :)

Here's (http://www.naf-uk.com/downloads/pinkpowder.pdf) the full info on it :)

I use Palamountains Equine Bone & Joint on Joe and Timba.
It has worked really well especially with Joe,I put him on it when he was lame on one of his front knees which the vets reckoned was due to an old injury.
Since putting him on the supplement he has improved so much and is pretty much sound on that leg again :) Also he used to not like standing still for the farrier before he was on that supplement but since he has been on it he has stood perfectly for the farrier.
I have also noticed that Timba has been less stiff as well.
Chunky is on glucosamine and MSM,its just as a preventive really because he is likely to get arthritis in his hind leg with the injury.

It's a shame the shipping is so expensive :(

Mind you, if you are finding an issue here then I'm sure you're not the only only. Could this be the start of your own money making idea :D

NAF Pink Powder! :D

Over the last few years, Sal has had a LOT of antibiotics for various bits and bobs. The Pink Powder is supposed to "reset" the good bacteria in his gut that the antibiotics kills off, which enables him to absorb more of the nutrients from his feed. Since he went on it, his coat is glossier, he generally looks healthier and his feet are brilliant! He's even barefoot now, something that I could only dream about before the Pink Powder. For years I was feeding garlic, seaweed and all sorts, but didn't get much result, but within a month of going on the Pink Powder, there was a definite improvement.

oh gosh - the supplement queen has far too many - i would love someone to come & rationalise her feed - so feel free to comment on the overlong list -
Garlic
Pink Powder
Extra Flex HA - cheaper than cortaflex & just as effective
Soya Oil
Iron stuff - not sure what its called
Linseed for her coat
does molasses count as a supplement
helps to explain why we have no money - but many people are surprised when i say she is 18 so maybe its all working :)
Poor little pony just survives on handful of pony nuts & some molasses

Garlic
Psyllium (good for problems in gut linked to sandy soil)
Equi-Life Formula 4 Feet

Used to feed my arab Total Eclipse by Simple System (blend of Linseed, Seaweed and Brewers’ Yeast) which he thrived on, but my current horse hates the taste of it! :(

I use the following:-

Garlic - for the flies and because she likes it
Formula 4 Feet - it improves condition of horses hooves, especially if they suffer from crumbly feet
Dengie Vitality Hoof & Coat - again for feet
Cortaflex - for joints

When I first got Lady, her feet were quite crumbly (normal TB feet). She was losing shoes all the time when I first got her, now 6mths later her feet are like concrete. She lost both her shoes again the other day (they were overdue though), and she was walking around on gravel with no soreness at all.

Cant rate the Formula 4 Feet & Dengie Hoof & Coat enough - brilliant stuff.

Same here, my ID/TB had typical TB crumbly feet. She's been on Formula 4 Feet for about 18 months and hasn't lost a shoe in about a year because her feet are so much better (there I've probably gone and cursed it now!)

I feed Simple Systems Total Eclipse to all of ours. The Brewers yeast in it is for the foals mainly as it gives them Vitimin B something they can't produce early on and should be getting from their mare's milk. I find the linseed and Seaweed keeps them all so healthy and their coats always looks amazing on it!

Garlic granules

Hemp oil - because it is one of the very few omega oils that contain ALL 3 omegas, 3,6&9 AND contains Gamma Linoleic Acid which is one of the best things to help an allergic itch reaction (also found in evening primrose oil)

NAF magic only becasue I had a tub as a calmer for my last horse and i thought it wouldnt do Blue any harm in helping him to settle in his new home as he got quite stressy about leaving his field mate for a while.

i also feed Baileys Low Cal balancer as it contains all the vits&mins he needs.

Ranch gets JointRightSupreme, which is a joint supplement for her arthritis, has made a big change in her suppleness. Viri gets Mineral Plus which ads all the vitamins and minerals to his diet as he only gets oats. Ranch's feed has all of them in it already. Other than that, Ranch gets Sunflower oil to increase weight gain (her whole diet at the moment is aimed towards that) and they both get bit of salt when they are in hard work to replace what they lose with sweating.

I use Actiflex 4000 (http://gettyequinenutrition.biz/Products/Actiflex4000.htm) for her joints, and have found it really helps her.

Also, "Forco" (http://www.forco.com/main/prod-forcosup.asp) for digestion. It has kept her from getting the runs with every new batch of hay. I've even started giving it to the dog, and it's helped him too :)

These products should be available in your area too, WillieLove, since we're almost neighbors

Total Eclipse - contains linseed, seaweed and yeast.
Table salt
Magnesium Oxide
Cortaflex

He's also been had a 5 day course of antibiotics which started last Monday, with two sachets of bute a day along side it, the bute will finish in the morning.

I believe that the supplements, combined with other factors in the way I am currently managing Daffy, are being beneficial yes.

Mimi used to be on it - she used to get two glugs in her evening feed (I know very scientific :p)

The only thing she's on now is a joint supplement which is made up especially for our vet - hopefully it's as good as Cortaflex cos it's not a lot cheaper :o
