Ok, here u go..........
Rode YO's lovely 18hh today, with possibility to share him.
I was howver feeling very self concious that this was someone elses much loved horse and I didnt want to hurt him or do anything to upset him or his owner ,so had about 3.5 hrs sleep lastnight.
Well after 11months of riding RS horses it was a SHOCK to ride him.
Lovely comfy saddle, didnt feel he was MASSIVE as I was used to riding 16.3hh and 17hh.
Gave him quick brush and was helped tack him up ect, ok his head easily reached the stable roof{outside}
BUT it was a totally difference riding experience, longer reins by far and a very very gentle leg needed.
Well walk ok, then asked for trot and off we went into canter!!!!!!! did i panic, NO i thought 'oh sod it, im in a menage and it wont hurt if i fall off'
lost a stirup, couldnt get it back so ditched the other, held onto saddle and went with it, and didnt want to yank on the reins so slowed him down without them, PHEW!
Did the same again, and again, and again and again, but the YO was fab, made me feel calm and relaxed and under no preasure to rush ect.
I was being too soft on him.allowing him to cut corners and go where he wanted. But after a while finally managed to pick up the very big bouncy rhythum of his rising trot.Even got to the point of doing a few 10m circles and changing rein{simple things normally}
I had been taught a very different way at the RS, very short reins, arms stretched right foward and not to push down on stirups ect and the constant use of my lower leg on RS horses made me grip with my legs.
Anway came away feeling great, I was allowed to take things at my own pace and talked through every little detail
:):):):)
Again, again, again
