Tatooed Lady

A friend of mine (who I shall not name, as she's the rather guilty party that got me back into horses so fully that I just HAD to buy one!) called yesterday to ask if we might go see my girl today. Well, I've been rather sick lately with some respiratory crud going around that I'm easily winded...but I jumped on the chance, since I haven't seen Queen in about a week...:o
Anyhow, we got there today, her jaw dropped over how nice the accomodations are compared to the old yard, she and the YO got to talking...we rounded up Queen, who seemed really happy to see that it was HER turn to get attention. After grooming, and taking her into the main arena with just saddle and halter on, I led her around a bit to see how goofy she was going to be. She seemed "normal" today....forward enough to lead well, but I had to sort of DRAG her into a trot....good enough to ride! :D
So, we got her bridle and my helmet on, and proceeded to try to mount the booger. She was really normal, I'll say! I bet I had to reposition that block 6 times before she stood still long enough for me to get up! Once on, she decided it was time to be off...nothing spooky, just a quick walk....got my foot in the stirrup, slowed her down, then she decided on a trot....*lol* slowed her down AGAIN....and she was fine. Easy to trot, easy to slow down...not as willing to do a dead STOP though...she backed, figure 8s, circles, etc. I took a short ride as I was winded by the time I got UP on her (due to the bug I've got), then had my friend hop on....
She is a bit shorter than I, and lots lighter. She figured she'd give hopping on without the block a go.....a couple minutes later, the YO apparently couldn't stand seeing the attempts anymore, and got the block out! :D So she got up, and off they went....Queen was an absolute DOLL! She did beautifully on direction, walks, halts, backing....she even trotted when she was asked, and slowed again when asked....
Why am I surprised? I mean, this IS normal for her.....well, about 2 weeks ago, Queen wasn't so "normal", and went into "Yee-HAW!! RODEO!" mode....and bucked me off. I haven't ridden since. *lol*
I think she was out to impress the YO and my friend, but I can't say for sure. ;)
Edit: Weird part I noticed....even though I can't comfortably breathe, I did notice that I was able to focus really well on my seat today...sitting her trot wasn't as difficult as it normally is for me.
