Im switching my mare onto this instead of Hi Fi Lite to rule out her grumpyness being down to the alfalfa in Hi Fi. I know some horses cant tollerate it. Do you feed Safe and Sound the same amount as chop and do you have to soak it as it has sugar beet in it?

i feed safe & sound, feed it the same as any chaff i feed, i always dampen chaff but you don't need to soak it:)

I feed the same amount of Safe and Sound as when feeding chaff and nuts. There's no need to soak or dampen it down but I do prefer to add a little water to any chaff based feed.
It works out more expensive but my horse loves it, especialy the chunky bits - it's also a great feed for any horse that's prone to laminitis. :)

No you dont have to soak it as the sugar beet in it is presoaked and formed into pellets.
I had Kia on it when I first got him as his feet were shocking and I was scared of lami.
A good feed but not for a poor doer I'm afraid unless your feeding obscene amounts of it:o
Great for a horse who needs to watch the weight but look god as it is full of vits and mins and really makes a difference to their feet.

I feed safe & sound. Haven't ever soaked it and had no problems even when feeding a lot of it dry, and I have two that do choke occasionally. I feed quite a generous scoop of it for each horse, I guess about the same amount as i would of HiFi, not that I would feed HiFi since I have two that are definitley very sensitive to alfalfa.

Mine were quite obvious. Roxy's caprioled because a leaf moved and Mia just generally bounced around like a total idiot and got sore feet.
Things to watch out for are sore feet, silly behaviour and itchyness.

I have been feeding Safe and Sound to my boy on box rest - he has been having a whole bucket a day and is absolutely loving it - in fact now he is allowed out he is still having it and I am feeding it as well as Alfa A - but I think I am going to change him off of the Alfa A and put him on just S&S and his balancer!!

I feed s and s to my boy, he has about 3/4 scoop once a day however i wasnt aware it had sugar beet in, i thought those nuggets were just pellet nuts etc etc, i always wet it though, he seems to love the stuff! i used to just feed him dengi hi fi lite but he prefers this stuff!!

Those of you that currently use Safe & Sound, do you feed anything else with it? I have read quite a bit recently about alfalfa intolerance and have been wondering if my lads spookiness might be anything to do with this (I have my doubts, but may be worth a try! :o)

You dont NEED to feed with anything else if fed at the right amount :)

Thought that might be the case... but is the right amount a H-U-G-E amount? For a big horse in light work (& currently attending weight watchers! :p)

Why not feed a balancer? (Wow im on a low cal run tonight) Will give you all you want without the lbs! Then add a chaff just to bulk it/slow eating. :) Or alt. add a general purpose supplemet. But generally the bags say around 1kg for the RDA which is only about 2 1/2 lbs. Looks loads but isnt
