I'm looking at changing my bedding from straw to something easier to muck out and cleaner.
My horse is quite wet and i'm worried about the bedding i choose not being absorbant and smelly.
I can't use a paper bedding due to yard restrictions and they are also stopping straw hence the other reason for the change over.
Ideally, i want something that i can remove pooh from but not have to remove all the wet everyday.
Does anyone use aquamax or aubiose? What are they like for coping with large quantities of wee? Do they smell? Are the economic?

I use aubiose and don't take out any wet. Easy to muck out as I find the wet is contained in a small area, so it doesn't get all mixed around, and the stables don't smell. Expensive to set up the bed but i don't have to top up by much - maybe a bale per stable every couple of weeks?

Thanks for that. How wet is your horse? Mine's quite wet which is why i'm hesitating.

My daughter swears by aquamax. Both horses on matting with just a corner of bedding. They soon got used to weeing on the bedding and it is very absorbant.

Ive used aubiose in the past and loved it. Just took the poo out, left the wet in for ages and didnt notice it. Medium-ly wet horse that churns it all up a bit :) Was expensive to set up but I think I used 1 bale every 3 weeks to top up, so cheaper in the long run. And it didnt smell at all :)

we chop and change from aubiose and hemcore (depends on what feed man has in!) and yep aubiose smells lovely, but i prefer hemcore, we are on rubber with just a thin layer on top, and normally use a bale a week for top up

Aubiose, great for my VERY messy 17 hander who normally poos for England then dances through a sieve on top of it (at least thats what it looks like). I was using 4 bales of shavings min a week, now use 2 of Aubiose so even save money and he has a big not thin bed and its dry and stable for the big boy.:):):)
Cant recommend it enough, lovely stuff and I only have to dig out the wee once a week and it doesnt smell at all in the meantime!
They advertise it as giving you more time with your horse, and it really does (and I dont even work for them!):D

God this is a little odd as i've just done a test with these 2 beddings with my 2 horses.
I choose Aubiose and now will never look back! I use it as a semi deep litter for my box walker, i skip out the poo every day, and take the wee out once a week and i would say i put a bag in every 11 days.
I find that Aubiose is very absorbent once the bed isn't as fresh as when its new and has gone firm, then the wee goes straight to the bottom so then he can't stir it up from his box walking. ( This only works as he's on semi deep litter, i don't think it would work if i turned the bed every day as i want the base to stay compacted. )
Only con is it is expensive bed to lay to begin with ( but will save you money in time )
I will never use Aquamax again! I find the bed gets very heavy to move around with the fork, when the weather gets a little warm the bedding sucks all the moister out of the poo, which then crumbles when you pick it up on the shaving fork ( so you never actually get any poo on the fork! ) And the bed always look really dirty.
I found it a little easier to work with when the bed was thin on rubber matting, but it still looked dirty.
p.s sorry i used some of the wording in the other Aubiose post in the horse car section ( was too lazy to write it again lol )
