Hey,
My horse has a BIG lump under his tummy!
Reaching from his scrotum to past his navel,
It's soft to touch and isnt hot, he didnt seem sore or anything..
Does anyone know what it could be?
Many thanks Lubii && EppyPotamus

Sounds like it could be retained fluid. May be worth having the vet out to take a peek. :)

Lubii I think is from New Zealand and we don't have snakes.

Lubii, I'd call the vet. A mare of ours had swelling there which spread and turned out to be an abcess somewhere in her pelvic region, they had to drop her and open her up.

Could be bruising, could be oedema (fluid collecting in the tissues) could be a reaction to a bite, could be a ventral hernia.

Have the vet out - as you can read, there's just no way of knowing if this is a minor injury or something more serious.

ETA x posted; has the sarcoid recently got larger, have you treated it in any way? I'd still have the vet out regardless.

Maybe when he knocked it it caused some internal bleeding?? I guess your mum's not too happy about calling a vet out? Could you email these pics to your vet instead just so that he/she could have a little look?

Mums just a bit annoyed cause we have spent over a thousand dollars on him over the 3 weeks ive had him.. and she doesnt want any more bills..
I don't even have a vet yet, have convinced her to stop in to the local equine hospital on the way up(seeming its on the same road she didnt mind) tomorow to show the vet the piccas and get an opinion.

Welcome to the wonders of horse owning! lol :D

Good idea to drop into the equine hospital with pics, if it turned out to be something serious and wasn't checked then the bill could be even higher later on so better to nip it in the bud now. Just keep nagging mum - that usually works. :D:D

Let us all know how you get on. :)

my donkey had a ventral oedema like that - she was put on anti inflammatories, pain killers and ultimately when it didn't clear up, anti diuretics which did the job.

looks nasty

Looking at the pics I'd get the vet - I'd be worried it was linked to his injury. If it is an infection then leaving it will only give it time to get a better hold & ultimately be more expensive to treat. Mums, they're wonderful but sometimes difficult!!

By the way it may be worth mentioning insuring for vet bills to your mum ;)

It wasnt there yesterday.. and Mum just thinks I over react cause I wanted to get the vet out when my old lease horse's did anything, I have explained to her how serious this could be and I think she gets it now.
Will go up first and take pictures and then go to the vets so they can see if there has been any changes etc.
Sucks so much cause we are staying at the stables tomorow night and now i dont have a horse to ride, and my friend was going to come and school him for me...

Could be a hematome linked to the trucking injury? Perhaps he was in some internal pain and starting kicking at himself causing both the bleeding on the injury and this bruise? Great that you can show the vet the pics though -- please let us know what the vets say!!

I'd suggest the swelling relates to the earlier trauma - how long ago did the injury occur?
Would STILL have a vet to see, I'd be concerned that the oedema is going to get worse. Put it this way to your mum, treating the problem now will most likely cost less that it will if you leave this for another week, and then have to deal with, say, lymphangitis

Doesn't look like a sarcoid to me.

I think there may be some infection which has stemmed from the prior injury, perhaps brought about by the attention of flies before he healed properly.

Check his temperature...........make sure he is eating/drinking normally, and try to keep the area clean, particularly if he is kicking at it, or if there are flies about.

Get the vet to have a look at him anyway. If he needs attention, the sooner the better..........it's only money......you'll get used to not having much when you keep horses.:D

Nope they said they will come back today and give him an injection, Didn't like the vet too much.. she didn't tell us how its going to be treated or what injection he is getting and what it does etc which was really annoying..

Oh dear god the procedure was horrible!
She have him an anasetic.. and then a local around the proud flesh.. dug her fingers into it and ripped it off.. then the same on the other one and the little thingy on his peepee and then took about an hour trying to stop the bleeding.. it was horrible.

I was buisy doing 101 things getting the tack room set up to sleep in for our sleep over so just listend as i went past and got mum to tell me afterwards, I asked about everything before she even touched my horse today, lmao. I think it might actually be a sarcoid not proud flesh and shes just not explained it well enough cause i didint think he would need a local for proud flesh because it has no nerve endings?
