you will have to "shave" the top of is tail (i think- none of ours are hogged) i dont know the correct term somebody on here will ;)

other than that they may have been talking about applying pig oil and sulpher

DONT SHAVE THE TAIL!! i think its looks dead silly :p

you dont HAVE to do something to the tail but if you do want to do something then i would pull it from the sides and thin the top bit off a little so it dont look so bulky

You would only have to pull the tail if you were planning on showing him in show cob clases. If you are not competing him, it is entirely up to you. My boy was hogged for a year and still had his fore lock and a naturl tail. It is only recently that I decided to do the other bits.

i know plenty of cobs that are hogged or i have hogged myself and they have full tails still. pulled tails are used to show off your horses muscle in there bum so if you are not showing dont touch the tail.

if the main is scruffy and all different lengths and beyond salvage i would hog it off, it will all grow in the same condition but watch out for you horse itching it when it starts to grow again.

Unless you are showing then do what you like! I have hogged Max's mane in the past and left the forelock in, have also taken forelock off aswell but never shaved his tail I think it looks awful (even if is 'correct' thing to do)

My horse is hogged but I leave the tail alone. Id be inclined to hog the mane and then see what it looks like with the forlock. You can always take it off later if you want, you'd be suprised how different it makes a horse look.In my horses case Ive left his forlock as he doesnt look right without it. It all depends on the shape of the head and neck.

Like said, not unless your showing. And if so dont shave, pull :) or use a tail rake!
