Anyone rate this?? My TB has been on it for 6 weeks now, having 2kg (2 x 1kg as well as a scoop of hi-fi and speedibeet and oil) and he still isn't gaining weight  would be better with a topline/condition cube or should I stick with it as he is due to be wormed soon to see if its that.

He also seems to be having a massive feed so upping it would just seem a bit rediculous :confused:

I'd try barley tbh - i've always found that to be great for getting weight on and it's never heated any of mine up. How long has he been on it? I know it can sometimes take TB's a while to put condition and weight back on (not like my bloomin friesians who only need to look at grass to turn into blimps) I've always found conditioning cubes/mix to be a bit heating which you might not want - conditioning mix especially sends my welshie completely off her nut.

Edited to say - sorry just re-read and realised he's been on it 6 weeks - I'd give it another few weeks and then have a re-think.

To be honest he is not a very wizzy horse anyway  Lots of people have said barley rings, even the TB rehab centre said this is ideal as its an inbetween of cereals/mixes and oats but can make them a bit fizzy

I am wanting to show this season and he is no where near show condition it is rather frustrating!!

i had my pony on it for a spell (basicly because i was raiding feed bins in autumn and it was the onlything i could find! :p) and he was calm but i could feed him 2 buckets race horse mix and he still would be the same! and not conditioned cus hes always been dippy backed and weird in that way.

I don't think 2 kg is enough. For your horse to gain significant weight he has to be comsuming plenty more calories than he is using up.
Therefore I think that you can safely increase his feed to 2.5-3kg per day (you might want to check the bag for recommendations) and change the chaff to Alfa-A Original/Oil, with 1/2-1 scoop sugarbeet and 1/2 a cup or so of oil - divided into 2/3 feeds at least - oh, and be patient!

I would recommend upping the forage and oil before adding a mix.

Either that or changing from hi-fi to alpha a, adding the extra cereals or proteins in the mixes or cubes might make your horse fizzy.

Just my experience but then my horse is cereal intolerant but my mare was always better off cereals and she wasnt half as bad, she wasnt intolerant BTW.
