A horse on our yard is being scoped tomorrow morning as recommended by a vet. He is a young warmblood (dressage) who is at a trainers being schooled. He is doing considerably more work than he used to at home & trainer has also changed his diet considerably. Apparantly some days he is full of beans & others very lethargic.
He had some blood tests which came back pretty normal. So vet wants to scope for gastric ulcers. He wants him starved for 24hrs. Now I could be totally wrong (only from my personal experience) but I thought it was normal to starve for 12hrs as 24 is not necessary & would also cause unnatural build of acid.
Should she get a second opinion as to whether this is necessary? Also they haven't even done a worm count yet & I would have thought this would be normal procedure before going to the extent of scoping?
