View Full Version : What to feed my mare?

Wondering if you could give me some help with feeding my mare?

When we were in more work I use to feed her Dengie Fibremix extra and she did very well on it. Then through circumstances our workload went down a lot so that combined with lots and lots of grass meant that I put her on my local feed merchants herbal mix which she has been fine on. Now we are starting to do more work-building it up slowly and the herbal mix doesn't give her enough energy and she gets tired much too quickly!

I will eventually build up to needing the Dengie Extra but in the mean time I was wondering if there was anything you'd suggest. I know there is a Fibremix easy but although it was fine she also struggled with energy on it. I kind of need something between the Easy and the Extra! I want it to be as simple as possible -can't be doing with 5 different bags of feed and don't have the space to anyway! She has had a bit of sugar beet for a while to help her put some weight on over the winter but that's stopped now as she has the weight and the spring grass will be here soon! :) She is also on a multivit supplement and Seaweed and Rosehip supplement.

She is a 17hh warmblood 16yrs old doing 1-2hr hacking and some schooling-reasonably hard work as she is capable of high level (will be increasing the schooling) at the moment riding twice a week which will be increased with the increased light and better weather :D. She doesn't generally have trouble keeping weight on, has lots of hay and is stabled at night and good quality grazing (plenty of it) during the day.

Thanks for any ideas!
