I have Bramble 13.2hh New Forest average dooer 6yrs old in medium to hard work
I have Claret 11hh Welsh A gelding relatively good dooer doing in hand walking out etc in prep for backing
We have no grass so at the moment are on ad lib haylage and ad lib speedibeet (unmollassed) Bramble is also on barly rings but is now a decent weight again so i want to maintain rather than gain
However having run out of feeds what do you think would be a good feed for each of them, keeping in mind I have NO grass? Off to the feed store and haven't a clue what to buy :)

Are there any other suggestions that looks good as a bulk feed but need something energy wise for Bags

The Dengie fibre products are useful as they are based on forage (short fibre in the form of alfalfa and oat straw) for a range of energy/nutritional needs.
They are higher in fibre than traditional chaffs and compound feeds, and very low in starch. And you can adjust the volumes fed according to your ponys' workload etc. (although you will need to feed alongside a feed balancer/ vitain&mineral supplement to balance it).

do you not think that she needs something like a mix for energy as she is in hard work then?

Not unless you want to - she can be in hard work using, say, Alfa-A Oil which provides the same amount of energy as a traditional conditioning mix/cube (12.5MJ/kg).

have you thought about maybe feeding Readigrass? don't know how great it is but just thinking til grass comes through...................OR you could send them both on holiday to my paddocks as i now have loads of grass again:D:D:p
I would have said
Claret - Hi-Fi (any) 2 scoops approx
- Sugarbeet 1 scoop approx
Ad lib hay/haylage/Readigrass
Bramble - Hi-Fi (pref oil or original with veg oil added) 3-4 scoops
- Sugar beet 2 scoops
- Barley Rings 1 scoop
(possibly Competition mix if above isn't enough energy at 1 scoop but would try above first)
above split between two meals
Ad lib hay/haylage/Readigrass
I have a book somewhere that can calculate specifically what they need. if you know Bags 'proper weight' and 'condition score' plus the mj/kg of the feeds your interested in i could give you a better idea as to amounts needed etc
