anyone used them??

ive followed a really old worming plan from my vet for years and seem to use some sort of wormer most months.

im a bit stuck in my ways and cant see how only worming 4 times a year can work:confused:

can someone put my mind at rest and confirm that this pack is all i need, with no other wormers added

what are your thoughts/experiences?

Im not sure about this year pack as my local feed merchant has it all in his books for us so we dont get lost or forget where we are....he just reminds us a couple of weeks before its due :D I wouldn't be fond on worming almost every month, its really not going to be any good for the horse and while you may not have had any drop dead as a result they would surely benefit from have reduced amount of chemicals in their body as worming every month just doesn't seem neccessary.

I haven't used the Equest year pack, but I think its as its says on the packet. I follow the Intervet worming 3-year plan which is panacur, pyratape and Vectin.. though if I can't get the actual brands I stray to others as long as its the active ingredient which is key.

My vets also provide worming programmes - where you pay an annual fee and they send/post you the correct wormers at the correct time - so you don't even have to think about it (haven't done this myself - though tempting!!)

thanks, i have changed mine onto the intervet 3 year plan but even that seems to have an awful lot of doses.

i was just suprised how it could be done in only 4 doses a year - im all for the less chemicals the better hence im looking to change.

anyone else?

The Equest plan is a well established, effective worming plan. Different worming drugs have different intervals for use which is why this one has longer gaps.
If you keep your horse in good clean conditions there is really no need to be always worming them, but you should do a worm egg count instead.
Some of our clients only worm once a year with Equest Pramox then do their worm counts at three monthly intervals between. Some add a spring tapeworm dose to that, making two wormers per year.
Have a look at the reduced worming plan on my website as it may help.
Even the wormer companies agree that we should only be worming our horses when they need it, so that the worms don't get immune to the drugs.(which is already happening)
