I have ridden by TB in a french link full cheek snaffle for some time now & use a dutch gag for faster work if I feel he is going to get strong.
A friend rode him in the snaffle a while ago & said he felt heavy & a bit dead which I agreed with. She has since ridden him in the gag & (I agree again) he is SOOO much lighter in it & much readier to accept a contact. Thus I feel he is much happier in this bit. It also has a french link mouthpiece but is possibly a little thicker.
So...as I would like to do some dressage with him & the fact that I do not need the control of the gag when I am schooling what bits would you suggest I try which are dressage legal??

sadly there arent really any that are going to give you the affect the affect that the dutch gag is - i expect he's liking the poll pressure. in the case i'd try a hanging cheek french link - the pressure is only slight so not as great as the gag but it the closest you will get that's dressage legal:)

Thanks palomino mare - a hanging cheek was what came into my mind. he just seems so soft & relaxed in the gag. Will give it a try I think.
