I have a 2 yr old arab, should I be doing anything with him yet to prepare for breaking or should i wait until next year??

He has worn a bridle with no problems but as yet hasn't had any pressure on his bit.

I have just moved to a yard with a school, so the facilities are there if I need them.

Also, do Arabs mature slower than other horses??

I had planned to start my Arabian filly last year at 3, but an operation delayed us. I've just made a start this year and feel that she is much more physically and emotionally mature. Hope it pays off in the long run.
She took the whole thing realy calmly, including being backed bareback and ridden in a rope halter, and introduction to the saddle. The preparation was lots of good manners on the ground, getting out for walkd in-hand and general helping her to feel calm about life. I use Parelli, but obviously there are lots of ways to tackle this.

I have an Arabian mare, who I have just started riding this year at the age of 5. Last year, I lunged her and got her used to the saddle and bridle.

I think that waiting until my mare as five was a good thing to do, as she is much more mentally and physically able to cope with a rider on her back.

She has been going 3 weeks now, and I am very happy with her progress.

Good luck!, there is nothing more satisfying than starting your own horse!:D

i wouldnt do any more with him till he is older, arabs mature later than your TB's, the growth plates dont stop till at least 4yrs this is part of the reason so many race horses get leg problems, let him grow up a bit first
