Mine would probably be jumping or trail riding.

LOL anything on a horses back is fine with me ;) I dont know if any of you know those little "springy horses" at little kid playgrounds... well in Ontario i was at a playground and i went and sat on the horse and did a rising trot lol... my mom got a pic. :o

But i like jumping, galloping thru an open feild, trail riding, westren pleasure, and i LOVE bareback lol. But i love everything.

Jumping is the best thing even although I am quite nervous. I also like a good old canter.

Everything's enjoyable on horseback...but trail riding, jumping, and like Maverick a good ole canter are all excellent :)

enjoy everything on horseback, but prefer reining, cutting, and the occasional ride on the beach.

I actually like most things, though probably undeniably at the top is jumping and galloping on the beach. ANd even just taking my horse for a walk through the shallow bits in the sea.

Galloping Kally (ex racer!! wow!) down the straight section of a point to point racecourse. Aboslutely amazing!! The only regret I had was not putting my strirrups up from dressage length. I quite fancy borrowing a racing saddle and having another go...

I voted other.

I compete in a fairly new discipine, invented in France called TREC. It stands for Techniques de Randonnee Equestre de Competition, which translates roughly as Trail Riding Techniques Competition.

It has three phases - the first is Navigation (or orienteering on horseback, as it's sometimes called); the second is Control of Paces (how fast can you walk? How slow can you canter?); and the third is cross-country, but with the sort of hazards that you encounter riding out in difficult terrain: steep slopes up and down (which you may have to tackle mounted or dismounted); low branches (and that means LOW - 20 cm above the withers, adjusted individually for each horse); a FEW jumps (but jumping isn't really a very big part of it); water crossings, bridges, gates, narrow gaps etc.

Anybody can compete on any horse, and the object is to demonstrate all-round obedience and fitness of horse and rider. It is really stimulating and really enjoyable.

My other two great sources of enjoyment are battel re-enactments (riding in the cavalry is, in my opinion, just about the best fun you can have on four legs) and (since Boxing Day) hunting - although they're going to ban that before too much longer.

I suppose at the end fo the day, though, I'm just a "get out and do it" type of person, and I like any sort of riding activity which is aboug just getting out and doing it. LOL

galloping through an open field --- just me and my horse. no worries, no "keep your heels down, eyes up, count your strides!"
