Sofi is ridden in a dually halter which suits her fine but I am unable to ride Bubs in it as she lacks brakes. I really want Bubs to go bitless as she lacks brakes a lot of the time and can be feisty and when others ride her i worry that she is going to get a sore mouth. With me she tends to behave and is good to steer and stop etc (unless wound up then we lack brakes)
Can anyone reccomend a strong bitless bridle, preferably with no poll pressure.
Thankyou

All the "strong" ones have poll pressure...I ride Dolly in an English hackamore (leather curb strap and wool covered leather nosepiece) and she goes wonderfully in it (am selling off the Dr Cooks cause she doesn't go nearly as well in them as she does in the hackamore).

hmm don't really like poll pressure as it releases endorphins which in the end can cause the horse to be more worked up and exciteable. But if most of them work on poll pressure then may have to get one.
What are the dr cooks like?

They are nice but not all horses adore them. Dolly liked hers for a couple of years but then realised that she could lean into it and it would only tighten so much so started dropping onto the forehand and being silly...with the hackamore, she's sussed that when she works properly and doesn't lean, the hackamore stays loose and comfortable but acts very quickly when she's silly.
My pink one hasn't sold yet - I could cancel the Ebay listing and send it down to you to try?

Dr cooks apply some poll pressure, but most of the pressure is on the nose and under the jaw.
I ride Shay in a crosspull (dr cooks type).
A scawbrig tightens around the jaw and shouldn't give much poll pressure.
The meroth or indian bosal are similar to the scawbrig, but cross under the, as does the harmony bridle i think.
Sidepulls work on pressure on the nose, a rope nose sidepull is 'harsher' than a leather nose sidepull.
Happywheels are good as you can buckle them to your liking, but they may apply a slight amount of poll pressure.

It's already been on there twice (although Ebay cancelled one listing for calling it "Dr Cook style") and not sold so am open to offers! Would let you try it for free though to see how you get on with it :)

I use a Gentle Control hackamore with my Paint. You can see them at www.gentlecontrol.com
It works off pressure under the jaw. This came with him when I bought him. He has very sensitive teeth and cannot use a bit.
