Hi Everybody :)
I have been lurking for a while and I think this forum is great for us mature riders. I am 35 yrs old and returned to riding last summer after a 20 year break. I have been well and truly bitten by the horsey bug and am currently looking for a share. I was just wondering how much you would normally expect to pay for this as I have been given costs of £12.50 a week plus farrier costs to £15.00 a day and I am not sure what is reasonable. Both of these share were at similar livery stables with decent facilities for 2-3 days per week.

I've been told that the average in my area if you have a school, stables and some hacking is £10 for each day, so three days a week would be £30

What are you expected to do. Is this full livery or part livery?

hiya- and welcome back to horse riding!!! i did the same thing 5 years ago- hadnt ridden for 20 years , never owned my own horse/pony, found a wonderful share for 2 years then bought my own and have since bought another!
i have one of my boys out on share and my sharer pays £25 pw and she can ride him any days in the week (rides generally 3 times), all other costs i take care of, no stable/yard duties to do- just turn up , tack and ride.
i paid the same for my share a few years ago and i thought it was fair- works out at £100 pcm.

I think it depends on what you're expected to do. If it's just riding - no stable work involved, then £30 a week sounds fair to me if you're getting at least 3 days a week riding. However if the horse is being kept on DIY and you're expected to do all the chores on the days you're there, then I think up to £15pw would be fair.

I think £5-£15 per day is fair depending on how prices are in your part of the world, number of days, type of livery etc. I pay £10 a day.
A good share is fantastic - so I think it comes down to whether you perceive it as good value for you and what you want to achieve - you can't always put a price on that, it's more than a financial transaction :)
Good luck with it - best thing I ever did!!

Hi there!
Yea depends on what is expected of you. When I part loaned my horse I charged for every other shoeing and that's all - BUT - she mucked out the days she did him, turned in and out, fed etc; and I expected her to clean his tack after she had ridden. I also taught her now and then. But then I saw it as much as a favour to me as I was doing for her and I could trust her!:D
