Made a brief visit to my local tack shop today before I went to pick up my new horsey and found a saddle company saddle for sale 2nd hand. It was the seat size I wanted and have been looking into these saddle anyway the owner has let me borrow it for tonight and I am going back with it tomorow to say wether I want it or not.

The seat size was a loely fit but the saddle was to wide (very little wither clearence) and sat of him at the back so obviously even to an untrained eye does not fit. I was planning to get asaddle company fitter out anyway but the question is-

Do I risk buying the saddle and get it adjusted to fit when saddler comes and hope that this is possible or do I walk away from this and but a new one when fitter comes?

The saddle fitter needs to have the correct Saddle Co "tool" to be able to alter the tree and the fit of the saddle correctly. Generally all Saddle Co saddles can be adjusted to fit your horse perfectly. Are you sure that the saddle is right for your horse though? Does it go too far back onto the kidney area or is it too short not diplacing the weight of the rider enough.

How much does she want for the saddle?? If its around the £250 mak then you would easily be able to sell it back on Ebay at the same price if it wasnt the right size for your horse.

I fit Saddle Company Saddles and have fitted quite a few that have been bought secondhand. The advice I give to people if they can't afford a new one and go looking for a secondhand one is that obviously due to the saddle being secondhand it won't have it's guarantee but just be extra vigilant on checking that the flocking in the panels is even (i other words nobody has been overflocking it etc - which can happen to any saddle) . Just remember that the saddle has already bedded in to a horse' back and this wasn't your horse. find out how old it is and how many horses and what type of horse it has been used on if you can. cheers
