hi
daughter has a sec d who sets his kneck and tanks off occasionally and inverts most of the time, we are working on re-schooling him at the mo but was wondering if it was worth trying a myler bit, he has a wide tongue and a low palate but am confused by all the options available, anyone any ideas, teeth, back, tack all checked and fine, thanks

I really like Mylers but am rubbish at advising as I bought the low port comfort snaffle and my little gelding goes so nicely in it I didn't try anything else...

Your best bet is to contact Myler and chat with them and see what they can advise :)

What sort of Myler bit?

I use the comfort snaffle on my mare, she hates joints but goes very well in it.

I've had success with the Neue schule verbindend snaffle with my mare, the thin 12mm one with loose rings, she too has a small mouth, fat tongue. We are now also able to use the Myler comfort snaffle, eggbutt with no hooks as we have to stay dressage legal. However when I first tried this it was not suitable as she tended to lean on it, this she cannot do with a loose ring. Speak to the advisor at Neue Schule, She was a great help to me. They are easy to find if you type it into your search engine.

I'm another big fan of Mylers, certainly they really suit my ID who sounds like he has a similar shape mouth to your lad. I use www.themylerbitbank.co.uk & have found them really good for advice as well as trials & buying.

i tried a couple of mylers - my boy went well in them. He too has a small mouth and fat tongue and dint go well in single jointed bits. However - having tried the mylers, I since found he goes just as well in a hanging cheek french link.

I'm not really a huge fan of mylers. I know that they are supposed to be really great and designed with the horses comfort in mind, but everytime I use one it never seems to look right. I have an eggbutt with hooks and when I put it on my horse the sides of the bit wont lie flat against his face. I've seen this with other mylers on other horses so I know it can't just be me. I'm not sure if it's just the hooks or something else. Every horse is different and about 50% of the people I know who use mylers love them and the other 50% of people who use them don't really think they are that great and aren't worth the money. The best thing to do is try and find someone who will let you borrow one and see how your horse likes it.

my mare with small head and big tounge will only have a myler bit - sticks her tounge out in anything else!!

i have been using a hanging cheek comfort snaffle (wide barrel) but have just brought her a loose ring comfort snaffle (after seeing bobbins recommendation:D) so will be trying that.

it depends what you want to do, my mare goes really well in the low port that is meant for big tounges but its not dressage legal so i generally use the comfort snaffle wide barrel which is :D

I've got the Myler Tolkat and my big brown monster goes very well in it. I get a better feel of her mouth in it than in a snaffle and it is pretty forgiving when I make mistakes as well, which is great. Mine has the nice copper insets so she gets the pleasant flavor without slobbering all over the place like she does with a happy mouth. I would heartily recommend the Mylers.

Yup - I LOVE Mylers, they are my favourite bit range!

Trial and error is the key to bitting - and fortunately you can have Mylers on a 10-day trial before buying. The experts behind the bits are there for you to contact if you need advice - so go for it!

I quite like Mylers. I have my coblet in a low port (mb04) hanging cheek and she is happier in it than in any other bit I've tried on her, not a huge transformation since she was ok in her JP bit but she is definitely happier in the Myler.

Mia, the horse who the myler was originally bought for, doesn't exactly like it but its the only jointed snaffle she's not totally hated. She has a magic bit now and is happier in it but the myler was handy as something clearer to teach her steering in the first place.
