I have no personal experience, but several people on the British Dressage members forums say that they have found it very effective!

There seems to be lots of people using it competitively to increase performance, but I've yet to hear from an "everday" rider using it. I've tried Karma and Magic and though they "take the edge" off him overall, they don't really calm him down for when I need him to be calm.

From an "everyday" perspective I can vouch for it's effectiveness on my friends horse here's a little bit of history so you can see the effect it had: -

"Approx 14-year old 16.3 - 17hh TB mare been retired now for 2.5-3years due to an injury, yard has no winter turnout and due to another injury just before winter horse was on complete box rest for 3-months, no walking or anything. At 1st turnout on the summer this horse is plain dangerous, it spins, rears, strikes out, kicks everything, 2nd turnout will walk like an angel. But the 1st turnout of the summer she could kill you due to getting so hyped up. This year one dose of oxyshot 20-mins before she went out and she walked out like an angel, one slight tug of the rope, was told "No" "walk" which she did and then continued to behave like an angel."

I rate it in everyday life - I've also seen in make a horse who normally has to sedated with sedaline to be shod have 1-shot and was an angel to shoe, much better than she is with sedaline.

i was wondering if this worked as well. i quite like the idea of just giving it when needed rather than an everyday calmer

I have to be honest and have used it twice now on one horse and it made no difference, actually, might have made him even more sharp. He completely lost the plot second time around and I've never seen him react like that ever!

I used it tiday for the first time as Nats pony shakes when he is in the trailer but it fine once he arrives at his destination. I could not give it via the syringe as he just hates anything being shoved in his mouth so I put it in his feed (which you are not meant to do as not as effective) However, we loaded him and no shaking so it obviously did something or else it is a pretty stark coincidence! I will try it again next time to confirm:)

There's absolutely no evidence that it does anything. Yes there is anecdote, but until Oxyshot provide us with actual proof that the horse can absorb oxygen through its gut, I am highly skeptical
That is NOT to say don't try it... just be aware...

Ive used it, on my mare who gets very fizzy when jumping, and out hacking....ive had her on calmers for a long time and found most of the dont take the edge off, so trying this was something new... i found it to do well while she was jumping a had a bit better control over her and the same with hacking her out.
But i would say that not every horse would be suited to it...its the same with any calmer really

My sister bought some - but then read the ingredients:eek: If you smell it its like strong chlorine, enough to make my eyes water
Its mainly salt - so I can only see it calming horses by dehydrtaing them - If anyone can tell me otherwise I'd really like to know, as I'd hate to think thats how it works

The ingredients in oxyshot are de-ionised water, and atlantic sea salt, so yes you are right a lot of saltly water and nothing more????????????????????????/

Well - I did try it in the end. Didn't realise it was just a load of watery stuff, and my horse won't have anything that looks like a worm syringe anywhere near him. I did attempt the syringe first time, but he go so worked up as soon as he saw it that he was probably already in a state for any calmer to work. Then I tried squirting it on a square of bread, but half of it went everywhere and it made no effect.

Might have worked if I had actually got it down his throat - oh well, we'll never know.

(The magnesium based calmers don't work for him either)

We have just started stocking it (check my signature) and a few people have been very interested in store. Within 40mins of it going online, we sold 3 :)

the bumf says it works because of charged, stabilised oxygen present in the electrolyte solution, haven't read their literature to back that claim up yet though. i guess like all calmers it will work for some and not for others. we are going to try it so shall see how it performs!

Used it for travelling my yearling who has been sweating up badly during transit. She arrived at the show totally dry, came out an competed well and was placed 3rd at a big County show in a strong class. She then travelled home dry too. Also used it on my dressage horse who is very sharp and can be tense at a new venue, she was still sharp but softer through her back, neck and frame and generally easier to ride. I too like the idea of using it when needed.

i tried oxyshot on sunday with my big cob. I think i'd have been better off (and cheaper ;) ) giving him salty water. It had no impact WHATSOEVER on him! if anything it made him hyper. I won't be wasting my cash again or recomending it!
