I've had a couple of Reiki sessions done on Casper and find it all very interesting and I've been considering finding out more about it with a view to training in it.
I think it would be a fabulous way to build up a stronger bond with my horse.
There seem to be quite a few people on the forum who can do Reiki and I wanted to ask about your training - was it a full time/part time course? How much time did it take to complete the course etc?
I'm pretty limited in terms of time as I work long hours and of course Mr C takes up the rest of my time:rolleyes:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
PM me if you'd prefer.:)

I think word of mouth tends to be the best way. I know a few people who have attended paid courses and not really enjoyed it. I think it is important to have a Reiki Master that you are comfortable with.
Several of my friends and family friends are Reiki Masters, and despite having had several offers to do my Level One training, I waited until I found someone that I felt comfortable and happy doing the training with. Reiki, for me, is something that I wanted to understand for my own benefit. I have had Reiki with friends for years for depression and long-term pain, and I wanted to be able to treat myself, as on very bad days I find it difficult to be around other people.
In terms of time, everyone is different. My Reiki Master provided me with a hand book and we had sessions to go through various hand positions and exercises with me before my attunement and "theory" lessons. It took months before we agreed that I was ready for the attunement. Because I want to continue my levels with my Master, who recently had a bad pregnancy and now has a new baby, it has been almost two years since my Level One attunement, and I'm quite happy doing the preparation for Level Two.
I know some people have successfully attended weekend courses, but to me, Reiki is something that becomes a part of your life and I know that I would find a weekend too "fast" for something so life-changing. The attunement was a very emotional process which involved the facing of some personal demons, and it was a lot to take in, so if you're not a person who can cope well with very intense experiences then it may be better to find someone who can mentor you over a longer period.
Good luck with it. It's a very worthwhile experience.

I hunted around on alternative health forums until I met someone who I got on with and she perfromed my attunement over the course of 1 day. I have found it very relaxing for myself and pets although have never tried it on a horse as I don't have my own. Think the RS might ban me if I start laying on of hands with their horses. lol

See that's what I was thinking - I've seen some advertised at local colleges where you can do it all in a weekend which doesn't really make sense to me??
Thanks nelsonsmum - I'll have a look at some of there forums to see if I can get any help/advice?
My friend is qualified but she doesn't really seem to take it seriously and hers was again just a weekend course.
Thanks guy.

echo sez. I came across my reiki master by chance. She's the rolfer therapist i use for toby and we got chatting. She mentioned reiki and i found it all fascinating. Did my level 1 with her and am doing practitioners with her in 2 weeks time :) she knows my aim is to work with horses so has tailored my training to suit me which i don't think you'd find other instructors on these set weekend courses willing to do. She's also always there if i need to discuss anything with her.
Our classes were all very informal, we had an introduction to reiki, our attunement, then practised on eachother. It was all very relaxed and there were only 2 of us on the course.
i find reiki isn't something i turn on and off. As sez says, it's like a whole lifestyle change and i found it changed me immensly. I'm a lot less of a stress head!
