Just wondered whether you use the custom made one by Goldfinch with a twist in it, or whether you use a standard suber pad. How do you find the length under a treeless?

Goldfinch don't make a suber pad - David Ahn does - however the one with the slight twist has been shown to work well under the Freeform :)

I do, it's just the right length for my hackabout, I've got an inch at the front. I use the standard one, which works fine. I love them :)

I've used an Ergopad with a treeless, which is an old version of a suberpad that I got very cheap off ebay. That with a sheepskin pad seemed to work better than the pad that was meant to go with the saddle!

I had a suberpad custom made to go under a treeless, tbh it wasn't a big hit. My horse is high withered & I needed something that picked the saddle up a long way, so the pad was particularly stuffed full. I found the bits of cork didn't distribute evenly round the pad, they were sort of in ridges - possibly because it was so stuffed - & it left lines on my horse's back when I used it. I also felt like I was sitting on a spacehopper! I gave up on the treeless and the Suberpad in the end.

ETA - I still have the pad somewhere if someone wants it...

Yeah - OK - perhaps I didn't word it accurately! I know that Goldfinch don't actually make them, as I know David Ahn. :p I should have said the one that was designed for the Freeform.

I've just bought a Suber pad second hand, but I think it is the Suberpanel for a Fhoenix saddle. It buckles on to 2 D-rings at the front, and the central D-ring at the back of my Freeform, but it doesn't extend past the base of my Freeform at the back. However - the suber pad is much longer than where the actual seat finishes on the Freeform base.

Wondering whether to carry on with this or whether the length will cause problems. I have to say I am loving the fact that you can attach it to the saddle with the straps. :)

That is definitely the suberpanel, and as far as I know they are more stuffed than a normal suber as they are to take the place of a saddle panel rather than being an additional pad. The fact that it doesn't stick out of the back is good, as they're not supposed to, so it sounds like you've got something that will work really well :)

Thanks Lexi. So does your suber pad finish exactly in line with the back of your Hackabout? I was worried that the suberpanel should be a little bit longer. It just makes the Freeform look a little bit like it is floating at the back, so do you think that's OK?

Actually I do let it hang a little over at the back, I used to do this with my treed and the suber, as it was slightly long for her back, and David Ahn said it was fine, in fact he told me that the first suberpad was very small underneath the large panels of the military saddle it was tested on, and it worked wonderfully; so HTH :)
