Hi there, I am finally taking the plunge and going treeless. I'm just not sure what length of girth I will need.

If I need a 44" girth normally, roughly how long a dressage girth will I need (is there some magic formula to use:)).

thanks for any help (I dont want to wait till I have a saddle in my hands and cant use it as I've no girth:confused:)

You willl not regret a dressage saddle- they are brilliantThere is magic formula... I was told it when I bought a dressage saddle.
But as Jazz outgrew it I now have a VSD with a dressage tree made to fit her.

I think it is something like half the length of your normal girth and add 2 inches? Some say just subtract 20inches from your normal girth.

You'll want a 24" dressage girth :)

I find taking 20" off the normal girth length usually works so look for a 24".

Best thing is to measure as the -20" doesn't always work, it depends on the saddle and how the girth straps are fixed.

Make sure that the buckles don't come too low down as you don't want your horse hitting their elbows, it's not only painful but has been known to bring a horse down.

I tend to measure so that the buckles come a couple of inches below the flap.

The make and style of saddle makes a huge difference, so I'd measure before you buy.

If you have to buy without measureing though, I'd go for the normal girth minus 20" - it may not be perfect but should at least do up.
