With the weather changing I have started to consider putting my horse's new sweetitch rug on to prevent the dreaded midges biting him to death but knowing him as I do and with the ground as it is am worried it will just become a 'mud rug'. What are your experiences with it? Does it tend to attract the dirt - the fabric seems like it would and do you regularly have to get them cleaned?

ive wondered this as well.... at the moment it is so wet mine is still in a lightweight turnout... but when he goes into the rambo I have a spare ordinary fly rug to use for when I pop the rambo in the washing machine.

they do get dirty but not as much as your winter t/o.

ground **should** be drying during summer than winter so it wont get as bad as your winter t/o and i dont think you wash your winter t/o every time it gets a bit mucky do you;):D

they are lightweight enough to go in your home washing machine (or even get hosed at yard i suppose?) and they dry quickly

i use a rambo wug plus lite which is just a rain sheet but covers most of tail and up to ears at this time of year whilst the ground is still wet.

it gives enough protection for the few midges that are starting to emerge but doesnt cake the sweetitch hoodie i use during the summer in mud!!

Mine is a nice shade of mud/cream at the mo!! They are easy to clean tho, although I dont think I will ever see it as white as when I bought it again :D
