My horse got a slight sore in his armpit where he has incredibly soft and almost hairless skin- I gave him time off until it was healed then started work again remembering to pull his front legs out before riding-all ok.
However he just came back into work again on Monday after 5 weeks off and has another sore again. The saddler came on Monday and no problems there. I use a thorogood girth which i thought was ment to be really good at preventing rubs.
Actually not 100% it is the girth as it seems to far forward but guess it must be.
Can any one help? I dont want this to be an ongoing problem- we have plenty of those already:rolleyes:

I did buy a girth sleeve but it got sweaty and needed washing every time and i guess i was a bit lazy!!
I did put that on yesterday when i saw it was going bald as it didnt really look sore so i rode anyway..then it was a bit worse.
How about leather girths? or string- i never liked these but a girl at the yard says this will stop the problem

id stick with the girth sleeves because leather can rub too!

Will do, do you think the cheap ones are ok or should i go for proper sheepskin?
Has anyone used surgical spirit? apparently applied to the area it toughens the skin making it more resistant to rubs???
I once read about someone who got sore after sore and could never ride now i'm worried!!
I do have to have something to worry about though- will be something else tomorrow;)

id buy a good cotton girth if i were you, you could pick up something on ebay if your really stuck. cotton is kinder to the skin as it doesnt tend to 'stick' and rub like the rubber in the wintec girths do (are they similar to thorogood???)
ive heard of surgical spirt being used. just be careful there are no cuts or abrasions or it will hurt...ALOT! try it out, it might work , it might not...but i have heard good things about it in the past.
id recommend a sheepskin girth cover...might just do the trick.
good luck and do let us know how you get on!
