if i were to cross a black and white homozygous for tobiano pattern paint stud with a gray mare, what could be the possible outcomes. i dont know the mares genetic back ground, shes never been bred, and has no papers at the moment.
thanks

I'm no expert (you need Chev :)).. But from what I've gathered as one of her 'students' I'd say that the foal will be tobiano because of the homozygous sire but the solid colour could be anything as you don't have the mare's parentage or her original colour?? Haven't a clue about percentages or anything though.
Would be very exciting waiting to find out!

It would definitely be tobiano. But you have a 50% chance at least of it going grey (guaranteed grey if the mare is homozygous for grey).

so the foal would have some tobiano pattern no matter what the base color. are you saying it could gray out though as it gets older? completely gray out or just be gray tobiano?

Any horse that has grey will end up white. So if you have a tobiano with grey, the grey will gradually overtake the pattern until it can't be seen and the whole horse is white.
