My riding instructor is training to become an equine bowen therapist (she is qualified as a human one), I said she could use my horse as one of her case studies as after having my saddle fitted by pooshmate it looks like she has some muscle wastage. She came out yesterday to do her evaluation of boss' conformation, take lots of piccies, trot her up etc etc. Really interesting thing was it looks as though she has more muscle wastage all along her back plus, she has a slightly twisted pelvis  and stiffness in her near hind, she can be stiff sometimes. That was very scary to hear!
Anyway, point of the thread, who has used bowen therapy as an aid to building muscle? How successful do you rate it and did it make a real difference in how your horse was moving?
My riding instructor said my horse was going to be an "interesting case study":o

Saff had regular Bowen treatments and we found it very useful (though she didn't have atrophy so I've not had to deal with that).

It's probably worth keeping an eye on the saddle fit as she changes shape and make sure that it doesn't get too narrow otherwise the atrophy won't be able to reverse.

Make sure that you take photos so that you can see the changes, it's also a good idea to make a template of her withers using one of those bendy 'ruler' type things that I can't remember the name of  (available in WH Smith and the like!).

Good luck with the Bowen :D

Thanks bay mare:) thats really useful.
Yep, my riding instructor said in her course that there was a huge emphasis on saddle fitting, my saddle is currently fitted with a pad with the idea that as the muscle rebuilds the pad can be taken away.:)
